Volunteering Expo Success

Thank you to all the organisations and visitors who attended our Spring Volunteering Expo on Saturday.

This inspiring event gathered thirteen of the region’s leading organisations, promoting a wide range of vital volunteering opportunities. Visitors were able to talk directly to stand holders, discover more about volunteering roles and gather information to take away.

Among the many volunteering opportunities profiled were event organiser roles, fundraising positions, family support mentors, fostering, admin roles, maintenance and drivers. Some of the opportunities also involved learning a new skill such as counselling and first aid.

An informative workshop programme also provided a valuable opportunity for visitors to learn specialist skills and hear first-hand how volunteering can enhance employability. Sessions included ‘The Value of Volunteering’ by Voluntary Centre Services, ‘The Benefits of Volunteering on Mental Health’ by NW Counselling Hub and a hands-on ‘Bystander CPR’ workshop by LIVES. This interactive workshop taught attendees how to carry out CPR and use an automatic defibrillator – something that really can save a life.

The Volunteering Expo was the latest in a series of events held by the SCE to help raise standard of Health & Social Care through the sharing of knowledge, information and skills.
