Sign Language Taster Session at the Volunteering Expo

We are excited to announce an interactive Sign Language Taster session will be joining the programme of inspiring workshops taking place at the Volunteering Expo, on 29th September, 10am-2pm.

This informal and relaxed session will give you the opportunity to learn some essentials signs and find out how British Sign Language can be used in volunteering. Leading the session is sign-language specialist Lara Kelly.

“We take so much of communication for granted, but it isn’t the same for everyone. This workshop offers the chance to grasp some basic signs as well as discovering the impact sign language makes to people’s lives.” Lara says.

Inspired by a love of languages and the desire to learn a new skill, Lara initially attended an informal sign language club who met once a month. This sparked a real passion, leading her to pursue formal training through TSS Services in Lincoln gaining a Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language.

The Volunteering Expo brings together regional organisations looking for volunteers. Come and meet with a wide range of charities and explore the variety of roles available as well as learn new skills during workshops.

You can also make a difference on the day by donating items to the Lincoln Foodbank who will be collecting items throughout the event.

The Sign Language Taster session will be held from 1 pm until 1.30 pm. Places are limited - don’t miss out, book your place here now.
