A great response to our Next Steps Transition Event
Attendees arrived from 5pm, with the opportunity to explore the exhibition areas and talk to stand holders covering housing, day support, respite, education, advocacy and family support. An opening address followed with Paul de Savary, Managing Director of Home From Home Care offering his personal experience navigating the transition into adult services, as a father of a 38 year old with learning difficulties.
This keynote speech set the scene for the first workshop of the night – Transition Q & A’s – an informal forum for parents to ask questions and share their experiences of the challenges faced during transition.
Steve Green and Susie Allen led the next workshop on The Mental Capacity Act covering parental rights and changes with law. This proved a valued topic, sparking plenty of audience questions and debate.
An introduction to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) completed the workshop programme at 7pm. Dawn Maplethorpe, PBS Manager at Home From Home Care shared her approaches to supporting adults with challenging behaviors and explored the understanding that behaviors always have a meaning, a message trying to be communicated. The talk served a fascinating end to a great event.
We would like to thank all the exhibition holders for joining us for the event and look forward to the next in the series. Read our News section for information on all forthcoming events at the Social Care Exchange or email events@socialcare.exchange with any questions.
