The group then put their learning into practice on the local roads, starting with bike safety and a quick bike handling test. The group took turns to be a front and rear leader, practising all the calls and manoeuvres whilst being assessed by the British Cycling trainers.

During the afternoon, they returned to the Social Care Exchange to explore route planning, risk assessments, managing a group of riders and the limitations of the course.
At the end of the day Zoe and Tom announced that the riders had all been successful in their training and were now insured by British Cycling to lead groups of cyclists on routes up to 50 miles.

Despite leading groups for several years, one of the attendees commented he had been given a completely different perspective and was looking forward to embracing the methods shown to ensure increased rider safety.
Giant commented that they were really impressed with the facilities at the Social Care Exchange - the staff were accommodating, ensuring needs were met and the training room was light and bright. They are looking forward to using the facilities again for future events.
