Val Goff is a registered Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Instructor and experienced trainer. She delivers this 2-day course in an easy to digest, memorable way, teaching you how to identify, understand and help those who may be experiencing mental health distress and developing mental health problems.
Although some barriers are coming down, there remains widespread misunderstanding of mental ill health in the general population, coupled with the stigma associated with suffering from mental ill health. For some, that stigma leads to delays in seeking help and support and can result in worsening of their original symptoms.
Just as we learn Physical First Aid, Mental Health First Aid enables anyone (professionals or the general public) to recognise initial warning signs of mental ill health, which can affect anyone at any time. Studies have shown that approximately 1 in 4 British adults experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem in any one year. Yet early intervention can lead to far better outcomes for mental ill health sufferers and reduce the long-term cost to the NHS.
By learning to recognise the signs that someone may be experiencing mental health distress, delegates will gain the confidence and skills to be able to help and guide towards relevant professional help. In its most powerful form, it may help delegates to save a life by learning basic suicide intervention skills.
It has been described by those who have previously attended as a "full on, highly practical" course, loaded with easy to understand information and exercises that make learning fun and enjoyable.
All delegates must attend the 2 full days to qualify for their Internationally recognised Certificate issued by MHFA England, confirming that they are a qualified Mental Health First Aid Aider.
